San francisco: South Korean conglomerates and global tech giants, including Nvidia Corp., have agreed to pursue cooperation projects totaling $950 billion, as announced by a senior presidential official. The collaboration was confirmed during a high-level meeting held in San Francisco, which brought together leaders from global tech companies and top figures from South Korean conglomerates.
According to Emirates News Agency, the projects encompass a significant long-term agreement under which SK Group will supply $750 billion worth of high-performance semiconductors to global tech firms such as Nvidia. This strategic partnership was highlighted by Kim Yong-beom, the presidential chief of staff for policy, during a press briefing.
The San Francisco meeting featured prominent attendees, including Samsung Electronics Co. Chairman Lee Jae-yong, SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang. During the discussions, both South Korean firms and global tech companies agreed to jointly invest in large-scale AI data centers with a combined capacity of 5 gigawatts and 2 million graphics processing units (GPUs).
Furthermore, South Korea’s internet portal Naver will establish global AI factories valued at $10 billion through a strategic investment agreement with Nvidia and an infrastructure supply deal with Brookfield Corp., a Canadian investment management firm. These initiatives are part of a broader effort to strengthen South Korea’s position in the global AI supply chain.
President Lee Jae Myung, also present at the meeting, articulated a vision for South Korea to become a reliable production base and supply partner for AI semiconductors. Under what was termed the “San Francisco AI Declaration,” Lee emphasized South Korea’s intent to emerge as a key player in the AI supply chain, leveraging its competitive edge and production capacity in memory semiconductors.
“South Korea will make a leap forward to become an irreplaceable, core nation in the AI supply chain,” Lee declared, underscoring the country’s ambition to enhance its role in the global technology landscape.
